Ask for a named destination, written acceptance criteria and agreed records. Cutting, shipping and receipt are distinct milestones; none alone proves a blade has been recycled.
Why a destination matters
Blade composites present different recovery challenges from tower metal. DOE's turbine recycling assessment distinguishes existing recycling infrastructure from components needing additional solutions. Do not apply a turbine-wide recycling percentage to an individual blade or use it as a promised project outcome.
Questions to ask a proposed receiver
- Which facility will receive the material, and is acceptance confirmed in writing?
- Which blade compositions, coatings and contaminants are accepted?
- Are root sections and metal inserts handled separately?
- What maximum dimensions, particle sizes or packaging are required?
- What receiving windows and storage restrictions apply?
- What happens after receipt, and which records can the receiver provide?
- What happens if a load is rejected or the planned pathway is unavailable?
Compare complete scopes rather than one processing price
| --- | --- |
|---|---|
| Inventory | Count, condition, measurements and basis for estimated mass |
| Site handling | Staging, loading, access and owner-provided equipment |
| Transport | Load configuration, route review and receiving schedule |
| Downstream treatment | Named destination, acceptance and actual intended pathway |
| Records | Load register, weight tickets, receipt and available processing evidence |
| Exceptions | Unknowns, exclusions, rejected loads and changes to the destination |
This is a comparison checklist, not a price quote. Actual costs and available pathways depend on the inventory, site, transport and receiver.
Received is not the same as recycled
A shipment record documents movement. A receiver acknowledgement documents receipt. Ask separately for evidence of treatment or subsequent use and agree how exceptions and unreconciled quantities will be reported. A prepared or shredded blade should not automatically be described as recycled.
Reuse, recovery and disposal are different outcomes
Ask which outcome is proposed and what evidence supports it. A pathway that works for one composition, geography or receiving operation may not work for another. Our pathway overview explains the distinctions without promising a universal solution.
Next step
Request a project review with the state, county, quantity, whole or pre-cut condition, photographs available and requested documentation. Receiver acceptance and company scope are confirmed individually.
Sources and limits
This buyer checklist uses the linked DOE assessment for general material context. It does not certify a processor, verify facility acceptance or guarantee a recycling outcome.
